Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights – A Sad Farewell

My wish for you this season is that you were able to see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights one more time. I have always been entranced by dancing lights, even before I became familiar with the Osborne lights. Dancing lights are just magical and I appreciate all the hard work and technical know how it takes to put on a light show like the Osborn’s Spectacle of Dancing Lights. I like others, have probably taken these wonderful lights for granted. Just thought that they would always be there. Keep moving forward as Walt says and the lights are coming to an end.

This year I have become super interested in the history of the lights. Jennings Osborne was an unique man and a genius in his own right. You should check out this really comprehensive article regarding the Osborne Lights from the Theme Park Tourist blog. The story is pretty amazing and I feel a tighter connection to the lights after learning more about them.

I went and visited the lights a couple weeks ago and picked up the ornament. I really wanted the pin, but I guess I missed that as they only had them the first week or so. The day after I got the ornament, they sold out of those as well. If you want to get a pin or ornament, expect to pay 3 to 4 times the retail price on Ebay. That first night we watched the lights a little, but it started to downpour so we went home.

Last week I was able to go back and I enjoyed the lights to my hearts content. No rush and oddly the crowds were not as bad as they were the previous time I went. I got a couple videos of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights to help me feel a little of the magic at home.

I am so glad Disney kept the Nativity display in the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. In a world where political correctness is throwing the Nativity out of so many places, it was nice to see the real meaning of Christmas displayed at the Disney parks.

The Osborne’s tucked a piece of their Halloween decor in the Christmas decorations. The cat gets moved once a week by cast members. It is a nice touch for those who go more than once a season. Looking for hidden Mickey’s and the hidden cat are two fun ways to get enjoyment from the lights.

The question now is, is Disney going to have a Christmas light show somewhere in any of the parks? I know the Streets of America are in danger and with Hollywood Studios getting so revamped, it probably won’t be there. Maybe lights will show back up in EPCOT. We can only guess.

What was your favorite memory during the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights 20 year run?
