How Canadians are making an impact for Children during the COVID-19 pandemic

Our donors have been making a great impact for children and Families in Canada and around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. Families cannot access enough food, parents are losing jobs, and children are out of school. Here’s how caring Canadians like you have been helping provide essential supplies to those who need it most.*

Thanks to donor support:

Families are receiving urgent food assistance

Donors helped provide over 7,300 urgent family food boxes to children and families worldwide, with 3,600 going to Indigenous families in Canada.

In Red Rock Indian Band, 120 households received food vouchers to assist with immediate food needs.

Traditional food is feeding Indigenous children and families

With donor support, hunters, trappers and fishermen in Birch Narrows Dene Nation took to the land and collected 280 rabbits, 4 caribous, 2 large moose and 10 large tubs of fish. This is the equivalent of 2,208 meals!

Gardens are making children and families food secure

In Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation (Neyaashiinigmiing), families received 215 planter bags with seeds and soil, and planted 231 packs of seeds to start home gardens.

Families in Bolivia are turning their home gardens into local businesses, selling produce in the local market rather than in the city they can no longer travel to due to restrictions. This provides healthy food at home, and extra income to fill the gap.

Communities are practising COVID-19 safety

Over 300 community members learned about COVID-19 safety through workshops in Canada and around the world. Clinic volunteers in Ghana received masks, sanitizers and soap, and community members are using donor-supported handwashing stations at local schools to practice COVID-19 safety. In Uganda, girls learned how to sew their own reusable masks through donor-supported girls clubs.

Children are receiving educational support

1,124 children received remote educational support during the lockdown period in Canada and around the world. This includes school supplies, some home visits from teachers, and support in accessing radio and television to participate in lessons.

THANK YOU!

To all our donors and supporters – you are bringing much-needed relief to children and families who need it most in Canada and around the world. We can’t thank you enough!
