Charlotte Tilbury Valentine Lipstick on Olive Skin Review

So my “Don’t buy any absolute essential make up” rule for 2017 has somewhat failed.  See, I can’t resist a bit of Charlotte Tilbury sometimes – I do think she is quite irresistible, she is an incredible sales woman.  I decided that I wanted either Pillow Talk (a matte shade based on the lipliner, Pillow Talk!) or this glossy pale pink lipstick called Valentine (named by an Instagram fan of Charlottes).

I went for Valentine. Why? I DO NOT KNOW WHY. Pillow talk makes more sense for my colouring but I am weak. It’s been a while since I purchased a light nude so…here we are.

Valentine is part of the K.I.S.S.I.N.G range which is glowy and slightly glossy (my other Charlotte lipsticks are from the Matte Revolution range).  This formula contains light diffusing pigmented and a mixture of waxes that glides over the lips.

I quite like this formula, mainly because the cold weather is punishing my lips and this feels like lip balm – its hydrating and kind to the lips.

I find the texture is sort of soft but not ultra creamy. It is medium creamy with medium pigmentation.  For that reason it will probably appeal to many people because it has this sort of all roundness about it.

The packaging is gold and reminiscent of classic Estee Lauder and reminds me of Joan Collins’ lipsticks. I like it.

The finish is soft and glossy. I don’t find it very long lasting because of it’s glossy nature.

For me and my NC35 skintone it is essential to line the lips before applying, otherwise I just look like I have concealed my lips, and therefore, a little dead and washed out. I caught sight of myself with this on and not much eye make up and was like WOAH. Need more colour.

When I line my lips first, it helps the overall effect BUT at the same time it can look quite….you know…glam? Over glam? can you be over glam? Dressy. It feels a bit dressy for Tesco is how I would put it. But whatever, if you can’t take my glam, what can I do?!

Maybe I should’ve bought pillow talk after all. This pale requires a bit more work than I want.

Still…I don’t hate it. It’s a little pale for me. But I don’t hate it and I will get wear out of it. Paler gals than me will probably find this to be a really lovely petal like wearable daily pink.

You can buy it here.
