Today is the 154th Anniversary of the Battle of Spring Hill, part of the Franklin-Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War.
The Confederate Army of Tennessee, commanded by Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood, attacked a Union force under Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield as it retreated from Columbia through Spring Hill.
Later the Union army wrapped all their metal in torn shreds of blankets and stealthfully marched north to Franklin during the night without being detected by the Confederate Army.
The next day, Hood pursued Schofield and attacked his fortifications in the Battle of Franklin, resulting in severe casualties. The battle of Franklin resulted in ten thousand dead, dying, and wounded after only five hours of fighting.
Rippavilla commemorated the occasion with a candlelight tour.
Special Thanks to Photographer Rick Sweeney for capturing the evening in these beautiful photos.
