As you know, there has been a major Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  Now there is a way you can help the clean up efforts.  A non-profit organization called Matter of Trust is collecting donations of clean Hair and fur (human and animal) to clean up the oil in the ocean. Hair is hydrophobic which means it repels water and it's also great for absorbing oil (greasy hair means that hair collects oil). So, Matter of Trust has volunteers making devices called hair mats and hair booms which are made out of recycled hair and nylons.  When these are placed in the oil filled water, the oil is absorbed.
