David Bowie Shortlisted for 2016 Mercury Prize

ISO/Columbia RecordsDavid Bowie has made the shortlist for the 2016 Mercury Prize. The late rock legend's final album, Blackstar, will compete with 11 other records for the prestigious award, which is given to the best album from the U.K. and Ireland.

Bowie has made the shortlist twice before, in 2002 for Heathen and in 2013 for The Next Day, but didn't take home the prize either time.

For the first time in the Mercury Prize's history, you'll be able to vote to choose one of the six finalists for the award, provided that you're a resident of the U.K. The other five finalists, as well as the overall winner, will be chosen by a judging panel made up of British musicians, critics and industry members.

The 2016 Mercury Prize will be handed out September 15. Here's the full shortlist:

Anohni -- Hopelessness
Bat for Lashes -- The Bride
David Bowie -- Blackstar
Jamie Woon -- Making Time
Kano -- Made in the Manor
Laura Mvula -- The Dreaming Room
Michael Kiwanuka -- Love & Hate
