Paul Rodgers Headlining RockFest 80’s on Sunday; Show Will Be His Last Solo Gig of 2016

Credit: Paul MoscowThis weekend, the inaugural Rockfest 80's will be held at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida, featuring an impressive lineup of veteran rockers, including Paul Rodgers, Ace Frehley, Bret Michaels, The Romantics, Night Ranger, John Waite, Cinderella's Tom Keifer, Sebastian Bach, Ratt and Warrant. Rodgers, who will be hitting the road with his old group Bad Company in May, has been tapped to headline the second day of the festival, Sunday, April 3.

As its name suggests, RockFest 80's will showcase artists known for the music they made during the 1980s, while Rodgers probably is most famous for fronting two bands that had their heyday during the previous decade, Free and Bad Company. The powerhouse singer tells ABC Radio that while he certainly will be featuring songs by those groups in his RockFest set, he also will be performing a couple of tunes by The Firm, the '80s supergroup he formed with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

"I do like to play 'Radioactive' and 'Satisfaction Guaranteed,'" Rodgers declares. "You know, they're great stage songs to do."

Rodgers reports that his RockFest 80's appearance is the third and final show he plans to play with his solo band this year, after concerts this Thursday and Friday in Milwaukee. The group also includes ex-Heart guitarist Howard Leese, with whom Paul has played for 16 years, as well as bassist Todd Ronning and drummer Rick Fedyk, who have served as his rhythm section for about six years.

With regard to what fans can expect from his solo show, Rodgers tells ABC Radio, "I include a lot of material from all of the bands I've written songs for and been with. You know, The Firm obviously, Free and Bad Company, as well. So I mix and match." The singer also says he features at least one song from his most recent solo album, The Royal Sessions, his 2014 tribute to classic soul and R&B music.

Rodgers notes that he never gets bored with singing the many classic songs from his old bands. "There's so much material to choose from that I can't actually fit it all in the set, generally speaking," he says. "So there's a huge wealth of material there and I'm very proud to have it."

As previously reported, Bad Company is teaming up with Joe Walsh for the One Hell of a Night tour, which kicks off May 12 in Dallas and runs through a July 3 concert in Whites Creek, Tennessee.
