Proudly FIFA?

Tags: fifa south

The Confederation Cup is going well and it is becoming clear that we are more than ready to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup.  Good for South Africa.  Should we be proud?  Maybe not.

In the past week reports have shown that FIFA decided that the national anthems should not be more than ninety seconds long.  Yes.  Ninety seconds.  That left me thinking that we are not proud to be South African.  The bid for the Soccer World Cup comes then at the expense of bowing down to the mighty FIFA.  I say SCREW YOU FIFA!

South Africa has come along way since 1994.  A new constitution, a new flag and a new anthem.  So FIFA comes and decides, SOD OFF, your anthem should only be ninety seconds long.  Bugger the almost fifty million inhabitants of this HOSTING country, only ninety seconds alowed.  The reason?  'That is the trend these days'.

South Africans, I urge you on Saturday to sing the WHOLE anthem.  FIFA cannot dictate to a sovereign country about a national emblem. Unless we allow FIFA to.
