The Burien Creative District (BCD) is inviting members of the Burien community to attend a special launch party celebration on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
This free event will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Highline Heritage Museum.
On Saturday, June 17, the Burien Creative District will celebrate having obtained this sought-after designation, recognizing the city as a hub for innovation, arts and culture, and creativity. The award-winning Creative Districts program, under the Washington State Arts Commission, works to grow the creative sector and support economic development in geographically defined areas of cultural and economic activity.
The celebration will include local food and drinks, live music from the Ryan Burns Duo, and a short program highlighting the Burien Creative District and how the community can get involved.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating the designation of Certified Creative District and its role in promoting economic development by supporting local artists, performers, cultural and heritage organizations, and the creative economy,” said Committee Co-Chairs, Virginia Wright and Andrew McMasters. “All members of the Burien community are invited to attend this fun event, learn more about the district, and how to participate.”
In addition to the Creative District Certification Launch Party Event, BCD volunteers will host a booth at Discover Burien’s Strawberry Festival, where community members can learn more about the Creative District and contribute to a community art project.
This designation is the culmination of over two years of collaborative efforts by the Burien Creative District Committee, which is composed of Burien residents, businesses, nonprofits, and representatives from city government. Additional strategic work was done by a broader coalition of Burien stakeholders comprising the Burien Creative District Steering Committee.
