UPDATE: Severe Weather Shelter, road & park closure updates from City of Burien

Here’s a weather-related update from the City of Burien for Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019:

SEVERE WEATHER SHELTER: The Burien Severe Weather Shelter – located at Highline United Methodist Church – is now able to take a limited number of pets. They are also working with Burien C.A.R.E.S. to make sure no local pet has to stay outside during this cold weather event.

Doors open at 7 p.m., lights out at 10 p.m., wake up at 6 a.m., doors close at 7 a.m.

Dinner and Breakfast will be provided as they are able through donations, and Ben Fader, one of the Organizers, has info for those who want to help.

Here’s a first-hand report from Volunteer Cydney Moore:

Highline United Methodist Church is located at 13015 1st Ave S, Burien, WA 98168:

ROADS: We can report that there are no road closures in Burien at this time. Arterials are not completely clear of snow, but are passable. Crews are struggling to clear the Shorewood neighborhood and other neighborhoods with big hills. Because it is snowing again, our crews will be re-plowing arterials. #Postponethetrip if you can.

Thank you to our Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Maintenance crew for clearing downed trees last night and thank you to Recology CleanScapes for lending an extra plow truck and crew to the nighttime effort.

We realize the plows have left pretty large piles of snow in front of people’s driveways. We ask for patience as we focus on getting our priority roads passable for emergency vehicles.

PARKS: Seahurst Park is closed due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions.
