LETTER: ‘It is critical to vote YES on the replacement levy by February 13th’

[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The B-Town Blog nor its staff:]

We all want a community with safe neighborhoods, well-kept homes, thriving businesses and strong families. Every parent wants their child to have a great education. Good schools are the key to a strong community, and that’s why it is critical to vote YES on the replacement Levy by February 13th.

There is a lot of confusion and misinformation circulating about property taxes. As a homeowner, it’s good to know this levy has a lower Tax Rate than we have now. If passed, the levy rate will drop from $3.38 to $1.50 per $1,000 assessed value in 2019. Even with the new state property tax, the combined tax rate will be lower than the current rate. Tax exemptions are available for seniors, people with disabilities and others with low incomes.

The state is not fully funding schools yet, and we need the levy to fill the gap. If the levy fails, we will see big cuts to staff and schools, and our students will suffer.

This levy ensures that kids in our community have the same educational opportunities as kids in other communities. The levy keeps class sizes small, pays for special education, and funds teachers, nurses and security officers.

For Highline’s children, please join me and your fellow community members in voting YES by February 13th.
