Canberra: Tennis star Ashleigh Barty, Australia women's team captain Meg Lanning and late Shane Warne have been named in the annual Queen's Birthday Honours on Monday.

Barth is a three times Grand Slam Champions and she recently announed retirement from the game at the age of 25. Barty last held the trophy of Australian Open high in the air as she marked blistering win at her home soil.

“There are so many Australian people who do wonderful things for our country and I want to congratulate all of the other award recipients on being recognised for their contributions,” Barty said in a statement.

"“On a personal level, I always try to uphold Australian values – being humble, respectful, kind and caring for others,” she added.

Lanning, 30, who recently led Australia to ODI World Cup triumph, has been awarded Member of the General Division (AM) for significant service to women's cricket at the elite level. Since taking on the Australian captaincy in 2014 when she was 21, Lanning has overall won three T20 World Cup titles as well as three Ashes victories in 2015, 2019 and 2021-22 (she missed 2017-18 due to injury) and been in charge of a record-breaking 26-match ODI winning streak.

Lanning is the three-time Belinda Clark Award winner and has scored more ODI centuries than any other woman. She has represented her country on 221 occasions and has led her team to unrivalled success in all formats.

Shane Warne received his first Australian state honour posthumously after being named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO). Spin legend Warne who tragically passed away on March 4 due to a heart attack in Thailand has been appointed an Order of Australia (AO).

Warne was one of the most influential cricketers in history. He almost single-handedly reinvented the art of leg-spin when he burst onto the international scene in the early 1990s, and by the time he retired from international cricket in 2007, he had become the first bowler to reach 700 Test wickets.
