Yearender 2020:

Acting is all about talent, there are a few actors in the industry, their acting doesn't seem like acting. They do it more naturally. But, these are left under complimented. There are 5 actors who are the most underrated in Bollywood but have slayed their performances on OTT platforms in 2020. See here:

Arshad Warsi

Arshad Warsi is an actor, producer, dancer, television personality, and also a playback singer. Before making his acting debut, Warsi associated with an English theatre group in Mumbai, he served as an assistant director to Mahesh Bhatt in Kaash and also choreographed a song in Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. he has been through a hard path, has done a lot of struggle and it has paid him back too. Warsi made his acting debut in 1996 with Tere Mere Sapne, which was a box office success. But his career took a turn after his portrayal of Circuit in the comedy Film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and its sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role.

Warsi is an underrated actor, he has done some brilliant works that have not received the compliments it deserved. In the year 2020 he came up with one of his finest works in Asur, a web series that combined the genres of mythological fiction and thriller, reveled in its larger-than-life theories, but its grandness wasn’t communicated well enough. Asur also faltered when it came to tying up loose ends by the end of the season. Warsi's performance in Asur made the world his fan. He won hearts and a lot of love. Also, people are desperately waiting for Asur season 2 as the first season ended at a very crucial yet interesting point.

Kay Kay Menon

Krishna Kumar Menon whom we know as Kay Kay Menon is an Indian film, stage, and television actor who works predominantly in Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, and Telugu cinema. In the early years of his career, Menon worked on television, with roles in the TV movies Zebra 2 and Last Train To Mahakali. He was praised for his role as a young Prime Minister in the Zee TV series Pradhan Mantri, Menon made his big-screen debut with a small role in Naseem in 1995, followed in 1999 by the lead role in Bhopal Express, a movie that went mostly unnoticed. Menon is full of talent, whichever roles he did, he did them in the best natural way. But, his talent never did get the attention he deserved.

Recently he acted in Special Ops, it started in a promising manner and largely stuck to the promise. Kay Kay Menon fit right into Himmat’s part and was easily the show-stealer here. The only con here, in my opinion, was the fact that the stakes were never just high enough for us to be concerned about the good guys in the finale.

Jaideep Ahlawat

Jai Kishan Ahlawat was better known by his stage name Jaideep Ahlawat, after completing his education, headed to Mumbai, to pursue his dreams to become an actor. He started his career in Bollywood with a small role in a short film called ‘Narmeen’ in 2008. Later, he got a role in ‘Aakrosh’ in 2010, and the same year, he also starred in a satire comedy film called ‘Khatta Meetha.' Though he appeared in smaller roles in ‘Chittagong’ & ‘Rockstar’ but went unnoticed till he got ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’in 2012, wherein he plays the character called Shahid Khan. He yet again is an amazing talent but remained unnoticed for a long time.

In 2020, released Paatal Lok and it turned the tables for him. The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “Paatal Lok is fashioned as a crime thriller-cum-police procedural set mainly in Delhi, spinning off into several threads, some really solid, a few comparatively weak, but managing to keep its hold on us. Weaving in awareness and recognition of contemporary India makes it political, and elevates it: Paatal Lok is intelligently written, fast-paced, and engrossing, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.” Jaideep led the series in its successful direction.

Rajesh Tailang

Rajesh Tailang is best known to international audiences for his role in Siddharth, for which he garnered a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Actor at the 2nd Canadian Screen Awards. He also wrote the dialogues for Siddharth and Amal. Besides being an actor and writer, he is a poet as well. He is the brother of late cartoonist Sudhir Tailang. He has appeared in the films Phantom, Dev, Amal, Umrika and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and the television series Shanti. He also had supporting roles in Netflix Originals Selection Day and Delhi Crime along with Amazon Prime Original Mirzapur. His acting is so natural that it gives the audience joy to watch him.

In the era of crime-drama web series, Bandish Bandits took the audience by complete surprise. It only took a couple of episodes to get enthralled by the world of classical music that this series created. While the music was a significant pillar of this show, Bandish Bandits stood strong on the shoulders of its story. Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Atul Kulkarni, and Naseeruddin Shah were a treat to watch in this Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari series. Special props to Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s music as well. Rajesh Tailang yet again nailed his role with his superb acting skills.

Mohd Zeeshan

Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub Khan is frequently cast in supporting roles and has appeared in more than 25 films in a career that has spanned eight years. Ayyub began his film career with a negative role in No One Killed Jessica in 2011, which earned him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Also, he featured briefly in the box-office hits Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Jannat 2, Raanjhanaa, Shahid, Tubelight, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, and Article 15. Ayyub had his biggest commercial successes with brief roles in Tanu Weds Manu: Returns, Raees (2017), and Mission Mangal, all of which rank among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. His only leading role in his career was in Sameer, which proved to be one of the year's biggest disasters.

In 2020, he came up in 'A Simple Murder.' This deliciously dark comedy came as a breath of fresh air. Starring Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Sushant Singh, Amit Sial, Priya Anand among others, the series took an absurdist approach to its sometimes serious content. For the most part, A Simple Murder was so well done that you couldn’t help but marvel at its writing and performances. Zeeshan made his fans go crazy with his outstanding acting.
