BAFTAS 2020: Joaquin Phoenix wins leading actor for Joker, Renee Zellweger awarded leading actress for Judy

Joaquin Phoenix won the leading actor award and accepted one of three BAFTAS awards for Todd Phillips' Joker. In his acceptance speech, the actor criticized BAFTAs for not being inclusive enough and lacking diversity. " I think we send a clear message to the people of colour that you're not welcome here," he said.

The British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) ceremony was held on February 2, 2020, at Royal Robert Hall in London. Duke and Duchess of Cambridge- Prince William and Kate Middleton, Joaquin Phoenix, Rebel Wilson Margot Robbie were among many celebrities to grace the event. 

Joaquin Phoenix won the leading actor award and accepted one of three BAFTAS awards for Todd Phillips' Joker. In his acceptance speech, the actor criticized himself and BAFTAs for not being inclusive enough and lacking diversity. He was also quoted as saying " I think we send a clear message to the people of colour that you're not welcome here."

Renée Zellweger, who took home the award for leading actress for her film Judy won hearts for addressing all her nominees for their performances.  

'Isn't It Romantic' actress Rebel Wilson stole the show with her epic comic timing and hilarious punches. 

Britain's top movie awards have been criticised for having all-white shortlist in its acting categories with no actor or actress of colour nominated for a single category. The award show triggered some more headlines when hashtag #BaftasSoWhite trending on Twitter.
