Bathers’ Pavilion has opened the doors to Eddy’s, a friendly, Italian-style neighbourhood enoteca at the Edward’s Beach end of Balmoral that is taking up residence over summer.

Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and takeaway, the corner café – located at 2 Awaba St – will be serving up a casual menu of simple and tasty dishes, hand made pasta, gelato, tiramisu, summer spritz and wines by the glass until the end of January.

Named after one of the pioneer residents of Balmoral, John Edwards, the pop-up will have a rustic, beachy vibe and seating for 40, plus tables on the street for those wanting to soak up the sun.

“We wanted to create a fun, new local go-to for the whole family to enjoy over the warmer months,” Bathers Co-owner Jess Shirvington told Mosman Collective.

“Eddy’s is all about delicious, easy and price friendly food and drinks. It’s a little bit enoteca meets milk-bar, a little bit aperitivo meets sandy feet and wet bums.”

Head chef, Dan Webb (ex-Ash St Cellar, Obar Dining, Banco Manly, and Clareville Kiosk), is fronting the kitchen under the guidance of Bathers’ Bistro executive chef Perry Hill.

“We look forward to taking excellent care of all our Balmoral locals and beach goers, from those who would like to sit down for a three-course meal, to stopping by for a snack and glass of wine for aperitivo, and those who are just looking for a gelato to cool down or a slice of pizza on the run,” Mr Webb said.

The menu will continuously evolve over the summer to showcase the best seasonal produce. To start the day, breakfast will served from 7.30am and feature a range of pastries and baked goods like ‘Eddy’s Danishes’ with cinnamon and pearl sugar, vanilla and blueberry, chocolate or ham and cheese, and ‘Frittata tart’ with prosciutto and salsa rossa or asparagus and salsa verde‘.

For something more filling, locals can try ‘Pineapple Carpaccio with yoghurt and mint’, ‘Ciabatta crostini’ with scrambled eggs and parmesan, ricotta and honey or crushed avo and tomato, and ‘Ricotta hotcakes’ with blueberry and maple.

The lunch and dinner menu is designed for sharing, with salumi, beef carpaccio, prosciutto and melon, grilled asparagus, tuna crudo and fried calamari available as starters.

For more substantial dishes there are home-made pastas like ‘spaghetti aglio e olio’, orecchiette with pork and fennel sausage and cavolo nero’, ‘pappardelle with asparagus, peas and stracciatella’, ‘mafaldine with swordfish, tomato, chilli and olives’, and mains like ‘fish of the day with tomato, olives and fennel’, ‘chicken schnitzel and rocket’ and ‘rump cap and salsa verde’.

For something sweet, guests can finish their meal with the mouth-watering tiramisu and a selection of gelato flavours produced by Serendipity Ice Creams especially for Eddy’s.

Eddy’s will have a range of easy and tasty takeaway options ready to serve hungry beachgoers throughout the day from the takeaway window round the side. In the morning, guests can grab a breakfast focaccia with scrambled egg and bacon, Eddy’s Danish’s and Frittata tarts of the Day.

From midday, there will be a prosciutto and melon salad, Roman-style pizza by the slice, cones of fried calamari, Muffuletta sandwich with salami, mortadella, prosciutto, provolone, olive and peppers, and gelato tubs, choc tops and biscotti bundles.

The drinks list is approachable, affordable and ideal for hot summer days. Most wines are available by the glass, starting with a $10 house white and red done in collaboration with Rotherwood Wines in the Southern Highlands, and there is a range of Italian spritz (Aperol, Hugo and Italicus) and cocktails (Bellini, Bloody Mary bambino, Tommy’s Margaritas, Negroni and Godfather) to keep summer in full swing.
