Calling Volunteers!

During next week’s National Volunteer Week Mosman Council’s dedicated volunteers will be doing their bit to support Mosman’s older residents and help build better community links.

Local resident Jeannie Yuill has been delivering Mosman Meals to locals for more than a decade and describes her involvement in the “lovely, helpful” meals team as very enjoyable.

Mosman Council invites others interested in supporting older adults in the community with one or two hours available on weekdays to get in touch with Mosman Council’s Community Care team.

Fully vaccinated volunteers with their own cars are being sought to help out Monday to Friday with Mosman Meals and the Community Links services.

Youth Art Prize Winners

Several Mosman High School students have taken out top awards in this year’s Mosman Youth Art Prize.

Ava McDonald and Nicole Yang topped the senior division while junior category entrant Jackson Brown was highly commended.

More than 300 entries were received including drawings, paintings, photographs, videos, prints and sculptures by budding artists aged 12 to 21 years old.

Since its inception in 1988 by local artist Ken Done AM, the prestigious competition has spawned numerous high-profile careers including that of this year’s judge and previous Mosman Youth Prize and Mosman Art Prize (2018) winner Natasha Walsh.

Interpretive Foreshore Signage

Council has endorsed a new signage project that will be launched as part of the Festival of Mosman in October, celebrating sites along Mosman’s foreshores that have inspired artworks by prominent artists since 1885.

Interpretive signage will be installed at the sites, providing residents and visitors with the opportunity to compare their current views with the artworks.

All the works are held in the Mosman Art Collection, which received a major donation of Australian Impressionist and modernist artworks in 2011 from the late Australian philanthropist Neil Balnaves AO.

The 12 artworks in the series range from Arthur Henry Fullwood’s ‘View from Balmoral’ (1885) to Margaret Preston’s ‘Mosman Bridge’ (1927) and Jasper Knight’s ‘Spit Bridge Tower’ (2015).

Balmoral Oval

Upgrades to Balmoral Oval and its surrounds are underway to address its undulating playing surface, aged irrigation system and a lack of drainage after Council successfully obtained a $1 million grant for the improvements.

Pedestrians and cyclists will soon be able to enjoy the wider, enhanced path around Balmoral Oval with works set to be completed by the end of May prior to the planned upgrade of the oval surface.

While the six-month renewal of the oval is underway, junior football training will move to Clifton Gardens Reserve for three months from the start of June with temporary floodlights used as required from 3.45pm to 7.45pm Monday to Thursday.

Comment on MOSPLAN

Have your say on Council’s draft revised MOSPLAN Delivery Program 2022-2026 (incorporating a review of the 2022-2032 Long Term Financial Plan), and the 2023-2024 Operational Plan, Budget and Schedule of Fees and Charges before comments close on Sunday 14 May.

Documents can be viewed online at yourvoicemosman.com.au or at Council’s Customer Service Centre and Barry O’Keefe Library. Submissions can be made by regular mail, email to [email protected] or via the online submission form on Council’s website.

A report will be submitted to Council for consideration of submissions and adoption of the final documents at the meeting of 6 June and will take effect from 1 July 2023.
