2 Teenagers Among Those Injured in Weekend Shootings Across the US

As of Sunday afternoon, as many as eight shootings occurred across the United States over the weekend, leaving several people injured and two Teenagers among the victims.

In Washington D.C., police are investigating multiple deadly shootings that happened over the weekend, two involving victims under 18. According to a report by WTOP, four people were shot on Saturday night in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road SE, including a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl. Both teenagers were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In Chicago, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg while standing outside a party on the city’s South Side on Saturday evening. The boy was taken to a local hospital, and his condition is currently unknown. In another incident in Chicago, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back while walking on the sidewalk on the city’s West Side on Sunday morning. The teenager was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

In New York City, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg while walking in the Bronx on Saturday evening. The teenager was taken to a local hospital, and his condition is unknown.

These incidents are just a few recent examples of gun violence plaguing the United States, particularly among young people. According to a Center for American Progress report, gun homicides rose 37 percent for young Americans ages 18 to 24 between 2014 and 2019. This age group represents only 9 percent of the population but suffered 26 percent of gun homicides during that period.

As the nation continues to grapple with this epidemic of gun violence, advocates are calling for more robust gun control measures and increased investment in community-based violence prevention programs. The Biden administration has also proposed several gun control measures, including background checks and a ban on assault weapons, but these proposals have faced opposition from some lawmakers and gun rights advocates.
