Baltimore Police Department Launches Investigation into Western District Shooting

The Baltimore Police Department has launched an investigation into a shooting in the city’s Western District. According to a statement released by the department, officers were dispatched to an area hospital on July 24, 2023, to investigate a walk-in shooting victim seeking treatment.

The victim, identified as a 27-year-old male, was found to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He is currently in stable condition and is expected to survive his injuries.

The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents in the Western District, which has seen a surge in violent crime in recent months. In January 2023, officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Francis Street to investigate a Shot Spotter alert for gunfire in the area. When officers arrived at the location, they observed a 44-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

In March 2023, officers responded to the 300 block of North Fremont Avenue for a report of a shooting. In June 2023, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of W. Fairmount Avenue to investigate a call for a reported shooting.

Police Urge Anyone with Information to Come Forward

The Baltimore Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation. The department said, “We are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.”

The department has also increased patrols in the Western District in an effort to curb the surge in violent crime. In a statement, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said, “We are committed to working with the community to address the violence that has been plaguing the Western District. We will not rest until those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.”

The department is also working with community leaders and organizations to develop strategies to reduce violent crime in the Western District. Mayor Brandon Scott said in a statement, “We are committed to working with the community and our law enforcement partners to address the root causes of violence in the Western District. We will not tolerate this senseless violence in our city.”
