MARKETING GONE WRONG

I was in the traffic when a Bookseller approached me. He said to me “buy this book”. I looked at the Book and the title of the book was “10 easy ways to become a billionaire” so I asked the bookseller:

Me: Is the book good?

Bookseller: Yes, it is very good. It will give you great insight into things to do to become a billionaire.

Me: How did you know? Have you read it?

Bookseller: Yes, I have read it. The author gave simple and practical things to do to become a billionaire within 3 months.

Me: Within 3 months? Is it that easy to become a billionaire?

Bookseller: Yeah, it’s very easy to become a billionaire; the problem is just that people are ignorant. So I advise you to read this book and not fall in the category of the ‘ignorant people’.

Me: Hmmm… So when did you read the book?

Bookseller: I read it since last year. I love reading books. You know, readers are leaders.

Then I smiled and asked:

Me: Yeah, so what are you still doing on the street?

First, he didn’t get where I was taking the conversation to because he was just so fixed on selling the book. It took him a few minutes to realize what I meant.

Then I continued…

Me: Wow… I think we need more humble billionaire like you, who won’t hesitate to stay in the hot sun just to sell 500 Naira worth of book.

He gave me ‘your father’ look. (slang meaning: market spoiler)

Please, am I wrong?

The best way to market a product is for you to become the product model, so that way you do less talking while the product talks for itself. Imagine the bookseller was a billionaire, and told people to buy the book, nobody will hesitate to buy it because they can obviously see the result and effectiveness of the book just by looking at the bookseller who claims to have read it.
