The first 2017 Ford GT rolls off the assembly line.

It’s been almost two years since we saw the Ford GT at the 2015 Detroit auto show. Since then, we’ve had plenty of GT news. Today, the first of Ford's latest supercar will roll off the assembly line at the Multimatic facility in Markham, Ontario, and eventually make its way to one of the lucky few who got on the list.

We spotted prototypes out in the wild testing in all sorts of weather conditions. Dealers had to spend $30,000 in upgrades just to service the new supercar. A GT took its class at Le Mans, along with third and fourth place. Eager applicants waited to hear if they would get an opportunity to even buy the 2017 GT. And we’ve been patiently waiting for this day.

“When we kicked off 2016, we had two primary objectives for our Ford GT supercar: to excel at Le Mans and to start deliveries before year-end,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, global product development, and chief technical officer. “We’ve achieved both.

“For everyone involved in designing and developing this car, including all of our employees and suppliers, this is a moment to celebrate," he added. "The all-new Ford GT is a showcase of our strength in innovation and our commitment to delivering more for our customers -- especially related to lightweight materials, aerodynamics and EcoBoost engine technologies.”

The 2017 Ford GT is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, which is said to make more than 600 hp. The engine is home to a host of new technologies such as port/direct dual fuel-injection and low-friction roller-finger-follower valvetrain.
