I know this is supposed to be a Friday Funny day, but this came to me while I was doing Tai Chi and I had to share it.

The God Before God

What was God to us before we called it ‘God’? Was it a thing of mystery, beauty, blessings, peace, compassion, forgiveness and joy? An experience of hope, passion, pleasure and inspiration? A paradoxical thing that made us feel humble and small before the greatness of the world, yet a part of it?

Was it also Fierce, terrible, scary and dangerous as lightening, forest fires, tornados and floods? Full of rules, judgment, blame and horrible punishments, of hypocrisy and injustice? Indeed.

Which will I (and you) choose to worship and make real with my everyday moment to moment thoughts and actions?

I choose to experience it in all its fierce majesty in the glory of a rainbow, sunrise and sunset, mountains and bird calls. When I’m receptive and keep my bloated nothingness out of its way, I feel it moment to moment in so many mundane things: my dogs, flush Toilets, my ability to walk, talk, think and sing, air conditioning, my morning cup of coffee and my bed at night.

Yes, its fierce and terrible Face is there in the terrible reality of ISIS and Boko Haram, draughts and flooding, or when the toilets don’t work or I forgot to buy coffee, but I choose to turn from that face to its beautiful, forgiving and blessing face and use that to cope.
