“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men and Women who died. Rather we should thank God that such men and women lived.” George S. Patton (slightly modified)
And for those lucky enough to live and for their families, the wounds heal but the scars remain. War must not be the first, second or even third option. The VA hospitals and nursing homes are full and it’s still Inadequate. The battle may be over, but the cost of war lives on and on and on.
Peace is more than the absence of war, it’s a state of mind. Saying, “Thank you for your service,” is sadly and ironically inadequate. All of us, especially you reading this, can work to shift from a competitive war-like Mentality to a forgiving compassionate mentality. That’s the way to say, “Thank you for your service.”
