How Much Vacation Can I Take as a Travel Nurse?

When most nurses accept a new job, they are lucky if they receive any vacation time right out of the gate.   Even when it’s finally accrued, many hospital positions usually offer two to three weeks annually. But that’s not the case with Travel nurses. We solve the often asked question, “How much vacation can I take as a travel nurse?”

The short answer is, “as much as you want.” Travel nursing is such an incredible experience, where not only do you get to vary where you work, you can also change up how often you work. With contracts typically lasting 13 weeks, Travel Nurses have the option to schedule as long of a break as they need between contracts. Some nurses just want a little time to reconnect with their home base or travel with family or friends for a brief time before getting back into a work mindset. Others may alternate between travel assignments and other activities such as school or their own business.

In the case of April Trinity Traveler of the Month, Scott Parker, an extended time off work can be an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Scott began working with Trinity in 2008, and he recently took a break from nursing to get his Master's degree. Whatever your reason is, the decision to take long breaks between contracts is yours.

How many times have you gone on vacation for a week, and dreaded coming home? Having the ability to select your destination as a travel nurse is like planning a new vacation – with work mixed in – every few months.   Want an extended Hawaiian getaway? How does having your travel and housing paid for sound while you spend your off-days roaming the islands? Whether you want to experience a fast big-city or slower-paced lifestyle, Trinity recruiters will work with you on a destination that emphasizes cultures and charm to match your character.

The key with travel nursing is flexibility. If you are financially free to enjoy large chunks of time between contracts, you have that option. Or you can take nursing jobs continuously in destinations that feel like vacations while working with wonderful facilities and staff across the country. You never know; you may end up doing such a great job and loving the facility that you extend your contract to stay longer.

Trinity understands that travel nurses want more than an assignment; they want an adventure. With thousands of jobs across America, Trinity can help place you in your desired destination and a position that fits your certification and skills. Trinity recruiters develop relationships with their RNs, to find the perfect job, and act as an around the clock support system for their nurses. Trinity strives to place qualified travel nurses across the country in acute care and rehab hospitals, outpatient clinics and long-term care facilities.
