Life often Throws lemons at us – usually from left field.  So although the above saying is a very good maxim to live by, it isn’t necessarily easy.

Many people and Businesses are being adversely affected by the new Sydney Rail Metro.  Businesses that have operated for many years, some for over 40 years will have to move premises and in some cases may have to close down.   As terrible as this is, my experience of the self-employed, which is many of you, tells me you will survive this.  You are the go-getters, the drivers, and the entrepreneurs, those willing to take a risk.  So how do you propose to deal with this?  Do you fold or do you come out fighting – the choice is yours.

I believe the following points are crucial to not only Moving on but moving on with purpose and pleasure.  A new challenge has many rewards.  Yes it may be difficult, worthwhile projects usually are:

1. Reframe your thought patterns. You can change a negative thought to a positive, for example, “I can’t start again at my age, it’s too hard” to “The experience I’ve gained over my years in business will enable me to progress much quicker this time. Another negative thought may be “all the problems and upsets to go through again” could be reframed as “This time we won’t make the same mistakes as before. We have so much more knowledge.”

2. Focus your mind on the present rather than what has happened. It is now in the past and if it cannot be changed then let it go.  If we focus on the past we become stuck.  It isn’t always easy but focus on the now and plan for your future.   A very good saying is “Fall down seven times get up eight”

3. Ask yourself, what is really holding you back? If you can’t pin point it then perhaps seek a mentor, or a counsellor  – someone who will listen  and help you to move on and enjoy your life.
