If you are in the Cleaning profession, you know that Restroom Cleaning is one of the most important areas that we are charged with maintaining. Because of the dynamic nature of these facilities, there are always challenges. The fact that everyone in a building, at some point, will require the use of a restroom, keeping them clean is of the utmost importance. The reason that so many struggle with restroom cleaning is because there is rarely a plan in place to maintain over all cleanliness. By putting a restroom cleaning plan into place, it becomes much easy to not only maintain restroom cleanliness, but it helps to avoid long term issues that become bigger problems.

Building A Restroom Cleaning Plan

The Restroom Cleaning Plan will give you an outline the daily cleaning tasks and procedures. This can be done by first taking an inventory of all of the fixtures in a restroom. Toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, dispensers and even partitions. Once you have a list of these items, apply the tasks that are needed to keep them clean. Each task should have a time associated with. ie: toilet cleaning should take 6 minutes per fixture. By assigning a time to the tasks, you can quickly apply this your schedule and budgeting.

Once all of the tasks have been outlined, specific restroom cleaning tools and products can be included. This makes it easy for the staff member to quickly determine what is needed to complete their work. It also helps with training new staff members as well.

Organize the tasks in to a checklist, ordered in which each should be performed. Keep in mind ‘top down cleaning’ and eliminating cross contamination. Copies of the checklist can be kept on a custodial cart or in a storage closet for quick reference.
