Unemployment fell for a 4th month, to the lowest it has been all Summer, the Olympics has boosted jobs especially in the London region. 61,000 of the gain in employments was in London with customer service and hospitality staff required to fulfil the demand of the Summer Olympic Games. However, the positive impact of the Olympics has been mostly felt in London as the North-East of England has the highest unemployment rate down 0.3% at 10.9% followed by Yorkshire and Humber at 9.7%. The question is whether the labour market can remain resilient given the economy’s ongoing weakness, although the Olympics has been seen a boost in jobs for London, it still remains to be seen whether this impact will continue once the summer is over.
