The HMRC Heats Up Its Fight Against Tax Avoidance

The Hmrc has heated up its fight against Tax Avoidance within the staffing sector. By invoking its power to transfer debt under managed service company (MSC) legislation, it has already successfully recovered debts. The HMRC made a statement to Recruiter confirming that “There has already been a return to the Exchequer.” However, those who are eager to know the amount that has, or still remains to be collected have some more waiting to do. The HMRC continued by stating “As some cases are subject to appeal, it is not possible to say how much has been or is still to be collected.” In his letter to the editor in December 2013, Goldteam Managing Director Rafiq Chohan showed his support of the HMRC in its battle against tax avoidance. Chohan said “I truly believe that an organisation’s ethical values should consider the morality of tax avoidance that meets the spirit of the legislation and not one that survives on legal technicalities or interpretation.” The full letter can be found here on the Recruiter website.
