Record Number of People In Work

According to figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on the 16th of April, the UK unemployment Rate has dropped to 7% for the first time since the recession. In the last three months, unemployment fell by 77,000 which took the jobless rate to 6.9% for the first time since 2009. Kevin Green CEO at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation was positive about the findings and said “The latest jobs figures are fantastic news for the recruitment industry and show that the jobs market is improving and that wage growth is returning.” He went on further to show how the ONS findings were supportive of the REC’s Report on Jobs that showed “growth across all sectors and all regions”. The employment rate is currently 72.6%. The Number of people in work has increased by 1.5m since 2010. Over one million of these jobs are full time positions. The Confederation of British Industry director for employment and skills Nick Carberry said “Firms are hiring at a faster pace, the number of people our of work is at a five-year low and the majority of new jobs are full-time”.
