A Good Job Versus Entrepreneurship

Question: With the recent success of many a young entrepreneur, I wonder whether I should also be considering starting my own business. I am now working for a Big 4 company in an entry level position. This is quite a prestigious firm and if I stay here and work really hard I can see my Career taking off and I might become a partner by my mid-thirties. If I achieve this goal I would have achieved a great deal of success in my career. But now there seems to be quite a clamor for Entrepreneurship, so what is your advice?
Many a person touts the virtues of entrepreneurship now, especially after the successes in the Silicon Valley. But I do not think this career path is for everyone. For every one person that is successful nine fail. And this profession is not as glamorous as it is made out to be.
Entrepreneurship has a very high element of luck, being at the right place at the right time is the key. Also, key is finding a deep pocketed supporter and there are not many of those folks around. The success stories I hear about are usually from a small group of people. You almost have to get into a very inner circle to open doors, raise the money or to get noticed.
Investors usually invest in people so there is a great deal of whether there is chemistry or not. Product ideas are almost irrelevant. This comment usually applies to the high tech business. Entrepreneurship where you control your own destiny and are not at the beck and call of investors, VCs or angel investors have a very rewarding experience.
Nevertheless I would urge young professionals not to get the entrepreneurship bug too early in their careers. In the long run you are better off going through the rigors of working up to something and not trying to get it all right away. Experiencing, learning and developing adequate skills does help make you a wiser person in that you learn to control your impulses. Too much of a visionary entrepreneurship too early in one's career can be detrimental to developing a sense of deferred gratification. Above all, do not do something that will make you the most money the quickest possible way, do something that you have a passion for. You can also develop a lot of passion working a regular professional job as you can have doing something entrepreneurial.
