daisy chain extention leads

Just a few weeks ago I went to one office to PAT Test their appliances. They had every work station Daisy chained togeather. A daisy chain is when you plug one extention lead into another. This is extreemly dangerous, it poses a fire hazzard and should not be done. As well as being a fire hazard it will also reduce appliance performance by causing a voltage drop.

Another problem closely related to daisy chaining extention leads is multiway adaptors. Most newer buildings are supplied with enough outlets as to not need multiway adaptors. Some times this is not realistic but if multiway adaptors are used they should not be used more than necessary. Look for a multiway adaptor with a fuse in it. Most cube adaptors are unfused and are fire risks.

Hint: When using a multiway adaptor do not exceed the amperage the adaptor is designed for. a normal adaptor will be 13 amps so if your adaptor had a computer (2A), printer (3amps), modem (2amps), and a scanner (1amp) they should be safe. However a microwave is usually 10 to 12 amps and should not be plugged into a multiway adaptor.
