How to stay safe on your motorbike

Motorbike safety is essential for you, your passengers, and other drivers and pedestrians.  Sometimes accidents are caused by others lack of sensibility but it is also down to you and the way you drive your motorbike.  You are in control and are in a position to reduce the chances of a horrible mishap by following the simple steps below.

Be Alert

Always focus on the job at hand. Remain observant of others on the Road so you are prepared if you need to change speed, brake hard or dodge around vehicles. Check your blind spot when making turns and going around others. Always be on the look out for potential hazards, whether that be people stepping out into the road, cars pulling out with late signals or sudden braking. Be ahead of the game and you will be the one in control.

Keep your distance

Never get too close to the vehicle in front or to the side of you. If you need to brake suddenly you want to have enough room so that you can do so safely and not crash into the back of the car in front. Over at Carry on Biking they see the importance of keeping your distance and reducing accidents.

Wear the right gear

Invest in the correct gear and wear this appropriately and accordingly. Make sure you wear your helmet at all times and are covered up completely. Try to wear fluorescent clothes where possible so that you stand out to others and you are seen at all times. It is important you are visible to other drivers so they have no excuses to crash into you.

Drive within your ability

Don’t show off or push yourself. Stick to the speed limits as well as your own riding ability. Remember you are not only a danger to yourself but also to other drivers and pedestrians when you are showing off and not driving sensibly.

Don’t overload

Keep your bike as streamline as possible and only bring with you the essentials. Overloading your bike can make it difficult to perform manoeuvres. You need to be able to control the bike so make sure the weight is distributed evenly across the bike and are attached securely so nothing flies off the bike and towards the path of another oncoming vehicle.

Insurance

Make sure you are insured. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to avoid an accident, it is sometimes unavoidable. Without insurance you are in a very difficult situation, which can cause problems for you and your bike. Invest in good reliable insurance, of course it may be costly but there are many deals out there to be had and could save you vast amounts of money in the long run.

So it is pretty easy really. Keep your eye on the road, remain visible to others, and drive sensibly. If these steps can reduce unwanted accidents it really would be silly not to follow them.
