Embezzlement Charge For Former School Board Association Head

Embezzlement Charge For Former School Board Association Head
The head of the Riverside County School Board Association faces four felony counts of embezzlement following an internal investigation. The Riverside District Attorney’s Office charged the man with embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds and grand theft.

According to investigators, an incoming treasurer discovered some suspicious transactions in the Association’s accounts. The man allegedly used the Association’s debit card to pay his personal bills and make unauthorized purchases. The amount of the loss from debit card use was $17,000. Additionally, the man wrote checks from a checking account belonging to a booster club. Those losses totaled $23,000. The total amount of the loss is currently $40,000.

The man, who had served on the Corona-Norco Unified School District Board, lost his seat there in 2018. Following that loss, the RCSBA replaced him with a currently serving member. The man hid the theft by withholding the treasurer’s reports from other members of the executive team. Following a weekend audit, the incoming treasurer reported the matter to the District Attorney’s Office. Association funds come from dues that the member organizations pay. The thefts occurred between 2012 and 2017.
