after he crashed into a Simi Valley garage. According to witnesses, the man drove his van into the garage and then attempted to leave the scene.
In addition to striking the garage, he also hit a parked SUV and a mailbox. Neighbors prevented the man from leaving the crash scene. The man’s van sustained significant damage in the collisions, as did the parked car. The garage was deemed to be structurally unsound following the incident.
According to police, the driver, a 54-year-old man, appeared to be intoxicated. Tests later revealed that he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.24%. That’s three times the legal limit for intoxication.
Initially, investigators took the man to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Later, they booked him into the county jail on suspicion of drunk driving. He received a DUI citation and will return to court on June 28 for matters related to his case.
