Types of Heavy Haul Equipment

Due to the high cost of heavy haul vehicles, most companies in Louisiana hire a transportation service like H Brown to do the job instead of running everything in-house. H Brown has decades of heavy haul service, and our expertise and equipment are available to you when you need to get the job done right.

When it comes to transporting heavy equipment, a quality transportation service that prides itself on its safety record is what you seek. From fixed-neck skidder haulers to 250-ton custom lowbeds to an array of custom options such as deck inserts and spreader bars, specialized heavy-haul equipment needs experienced operators to make sure your equipment is moved safely and securely, without damage or unnecessary expense.

Equipment Used

Some of the most common types of construction or heavy haul vehicles include:

Heavy-Haul Trucks/Transporters: Large transporters are designed to move plant parts and engines that weight as much as 60 tons. They can handle oversize loads, too, and we often use them with escort vehicles to mitigate the risk of accidents. These are great for mining and construction industries.

Medium Trucks: These are used to carry rolls of material, metal products and other heavy equipment. Flatbeds, box trucks and platform trucks have a range of designs to meet your hauling needs.

Heavy Trucks: Dump trucks, tractor-trailers and enclosed trailer trucks can carry several tons and are frequently are used to transport cars and construction materials.

Loaders: Loaders are also called “front-end loaders,” “bucket loaders” or “scoop loaders” and are widely used for transporting equipment to another job site or for moving equipment from one vehicle to another. You’ll always see them when new roads are being built, and they’re also common in building construction.

Forklifts: High-powered forklifts can lift and haul heavy materials in a warehouse or storage facility. They come in wide range of load capacities and sizes to suit a particular construction project.

Crawlers/Bulldozers: – A crawler is really just a big, heavy tractor equipped with a front-mounted dozer plate. These are common in road construction and building construction.

Cranes: These are essential in all kinds of construction or wherever materials need to be lifted or lowered. We have a large fleet of Mobile Cranes ranging from 10 to 450 tons in capacity. See more information about mobile cranes and fixed cranes below.

Excavators The excavator is a versatile machine with an articulated arm with a bucket on the end. From digging trenches and driving piles to demolishing buildings and lifting equipment, you see them everywhere there’s work to be done.

More on Mobile Cranes vs. Fixed Cranes

Cranes of all kinds are used in industrial settings for lifting and transporting heavy items from one place to another. Cranes types include mobile, fixed, telescopic, tower, truck-mounted, loader cranes (hydras) and many others. Don’t get confused; these can all be grouped in two categories, mobile and fixed cranes.

Although both crane types can be used to lift and come equipped with wire ropes, hoist or chains and sheaves for lifting and lowering horizontally, mobile cranes and fixed cranes are very different. Let’s highlight some of these differences:

Mobile Cranes: Mobile cranes are easy to set up and dismantle. They are strong and able to lift just as much as tower cranes can. Nowadays, with advanced technology they can lift thousands of tons at incredible heights. Mobile crane types include truck-mounted, side-lift, rough terrain, aerial, railroad, floating, crawler and “pick and carry” cranes. Basically, a mobile crane consists of a wire rope drum, chains, a control panel and a truss mounted on a mobile platform.

Fixed Cranes: These immobile cranes combine lifting and height capacity and offer better stability than mobile cranes. They can also lift weights to great heights. The tower crane is the most common example of a fixed crane.
