The Future is Remote: How Companies Can Evolve to Accommodate At-Home Workers

The world is global, which means that limiting your workforce just by those that live near your office is a waste. Not only can you save money in down-sizing your office space, you gain access to a larger pool of talent. How you can achieve this Remote workforce is relatively simple as well, particularly due to the fact that the first step is one many businesses are already taking – migrating to the cloud. With the cloud, employees can have access to information in real time no matter where they are, allowing you to both track when they are working and their progress. This means that even teamwork can be achieved by remote workers. To achieve this remote workplace, there are three steps you need to take:

Migrate Your Data to the Cloud

If you haven’t already, it is time to migrate your data to the cloud. Doing this will centralize your data, allowing different offices or departments access to data in real time. This will improve your company’s efficiency, and it will also open the doors to remote workers. There are a few things you want to take care of when it comes to migrating, however, especially if you have remote workers who can access your data at any time, anywhere. The capabilities of Amazon’s Web Services (AWS) are great, which mean that with a few simple AWS Cloud security methods you can better protect your data and your company. Limit what information your employees have access to, and protect your overall structure.

Hire the Best Around the World

Once you have migrated your data or formatted your system to accommodate your employees, it’s time to start hiring from the largest pool there is – the world. Advertise new positions or allow your employees to switch from working in-office to working at home. Those with children in particular would love the opportunity to be at home more with their children, especially if it means they can work while they are at school.

Use Digital Tools for Training

If the work you offer requires training, don’t fret. Digital tools are available online. If you cannot find a service that provides the right training online for you, invest in creating one for yourself. Not only will this digital training program be useful for remote employees, but it can also be beneficial to train on-site employees as well. The digital tools in question will include videos, quizzes, and even simple tests to ensure that your employees know how to use your systems correctly. Add in a section on digital security measures as well, so that you don’t pay for an employee’s mistake. Even something like malware on their computer can affect your cloud account if you aren’t careful.

Allowing for remote work is a great way to improve your company culture and to expand your hiring pool to the best around the world. Even for employees who work in-office, having a remote component could allow them to work from home if, say, their child is homesick. This way everyone benefits. The only difference is that you need to first update your system to accommodate for remote working, and to create a digital training program. Once this initial investment is completed, you can benefit from better workers, smaller offices, and an overall improved company workflow.
