One of the great things about living on Hilton Head Island is the opportunity to attend concerts with wonderful classical Music We have a fantastic Symphony Orchestra which is celebrating its 35th season.nbsp; In addition to the symphony every year in March there is an International Piano Competition which invites young pianists from all over the world to compete.nbsp; Young artists between 13 and 17 years of age compete in the odd-numbered years and pianists between the ages of 18 and 30 compete in the even numbered years. This year the League of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra presented a special benefit performance featuring Tristan Teo, second place winner of the 2016 competition.nbsp; It was held at Indigo Hall (see homes for sale in Indigo Run) and I was fortunate enough to attend.nbsp; Tristan is currently in his third year of the Bachelor of Music program at The Juilliard School.nbsp; He is just 18 years old and is as charming as he is talented.nbsp; Since Indigo Hall is a private venue we were able to speak personally with him after the concert. The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is right across the street from Palmetto Dunes... Oceanfront Homes for sale in Palmetto Dunes His program included Ravel Gaspard de la Nuit, Kapustinrsquo;s Variations, Opus 41, and Liszt Totentans: Paraphrase on Dies Irae.nbsp; As a former piano teacher, I was overwhelmed by his technique and expression.nbsp; He played well over an hour and these were extremely difficult compositions.nbsp; Everyone in the audience was in awe. I also attended the orchestrarsquo;s Holiday Pops on Sunday, December 11th.nbsp; In addition to traditional Christmas music this year they featured the animated film ldquo;The Snowmanrdquo; with Turner Birthisel, a local Savannah boy, as the soloist.nbsp; Turner is just 10 years old and had recently returned to the area from a national tour with the Disney Theatrical Productions where he was cast as Les in the ldquo;Newsiesrdquo; musical. There were over 800 people in the audience and everyone rustled in their seats as they tried to catch anbsp; glimpse of the child whose beautiful voice filled the room with the lyrics of ldquo;The Snowmanrdquo;. The orchestra contributes to the growth of music education in the community by bringing orchestra musicians to the Boys and Girls Club and schools.nbsp; Music Bridges is a music-in-the-schools program which gives students opportunities to meet professional musicians, learn about musical instruments and have them attend a full symphony orchestra concert at the Seahawk Cultural Center. Therersquo;s much more to our island than beaches, Hilton Headsnbsp;golf courses, and fun in the sun.nbsp; I guess thatrsquo;s why many visitors decide to come to live here.nbsp; Wouldnrsquo;t you like to be one of them?
