On 21 February 2023, the Australian government issued a new visa 485 update. The update shows that the visa 485 validity period is extended to up to 6 years.
The new validity period is applicable for certain eligible graduates and is applicable from the new financial year, which starts in July 2023.

Purpose of the Visa 485 update on the validity period

Details of the new validity period for a graduate temporary visa
The updated validity period for a graduate temporary visa would be as follows:
- Two years to four years for select Bachelor’s degrees
- Three years to five years for select Masters’s degrees
- Four years to six years for all Doctoral degrees.
It is also only applicable for the holders or applicants of graduate temporary visa – post-study work stream.
Besides, the allowable work time for the graduate temporary visa – post-study work stream will be extended from 40 to 48 hours per fortnight.
Are there additional requirements to be met?
Good news, there are no additional requirements you should meet! The graduate temporary visa requirements will remain the same.
You only need to make sure that your study program and degree is listed on the eligible graduates below.
Who are the eligible graduates?
The new visa 485 update would be eligible for the Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctor degree graduates. The Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree holders are specified below:

When will the new visa 485 update start?
The new validity period will be applicable for certain graduates who hold a graduate temporary visa on 01 July 2023 or will apply for a graduate temporary visa after 01 July 2023.
