Royal Caribbean Announces Sequel To The World’s Biggest Cruise Ship

Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Sea will be the largest cruise Ship in the world when it starts to sail from Miami in Jan. However, it will be overtaken by its sister ship when it enters service, probably in 2025.

Royal Caribbean announced the ship’s name as Star of the Seas, revealing that it will start sailing in the summer of 2025.

It’s the 2nd ship in the Icon Class, which includes features like a beach retreat, resort escape and theme park adventures.

The Icon Class Ships have 20 decks and come in at 250,800 gross tons at 1,198 feet long.

The Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas are under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.

Icon of the Seas has completed its sea trials and is set to make a transatlantic voyage to Florida on December 23, with its 1st sailing with customers starting on January 28, 2024. Also, a third ship of this class is due in 2026.

Due to crazy demand, Royal Caribbean has to open more Icon of the Seas sailings.

Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley said, “The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated, and Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we’ve seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas.”

This new ship will be the 3rd to be fuelled by LNG, a clean fuel that is part of Royal Carribean’s efforts to decrease emissions. It will join the Icon of the Seas and the Utopia of the Seas among the cruise line’s LNG ships.

It will also be equipped with shore power connections as part of the line’s goal of attaining a net zero emissions cruise ship by 2035.

Star of the Seas will follow Icon’s footprint and feature a 6-slide waterpark, 7 pools, a Surfside neighbourhood at the ship’s aft and a giant glass dome making up the new AquaDome neighbourhood at the ship’s top.
