11 Indian Seafarers Rescued By Iranian Coast Guard From Sinking Vessel

Iran’s coast guards managed to rescue 11 sailors from India. Their vessel was on the way to Oman, sank owing to poor weather. The vessel was loaded with sugar. It sank about four nm off Gabrik in southern Hormozgan, overlooking the Gulf of Oman.

Poor weather conditions have impacted not just southern Iran but Arab countries situated in the Gulf. The rainy weather, expected to last until Friday, has resulted in flash flooding in the provinces like Fars, Sistan-Baluchistan, Hormozgan, and Kerman.

The number of individuals killed in the flooding has gone up to nine, Esmail Najjar, the country’s Crisis Management Organization head informed. Five died in Fars, and two in Kerman and Sistan-Baluchistan.

The Iranian government in “full capacity” will try to help those in affected places, Ebrahim Raisi, the President pledged the day after.

At his command, officials including the VP Mohammad Mokhber and Ali Akbar Mehrabian, the Energy Minister, paid a visit to the flood-hit areas.

Largely arid, Iran has managed to endure repeated episodes of droughts over the last decade along with regular floods. In 2019, heavy flooding in Iran’s south brought the death of almost 76 individuals dead. It also resulted in damage that could cost more than $2 billion.
