Georgetown is a Walkable Waterfront Wonderland

From browsing through its many shops to sampling some of its tasty restaurants and admiring some of its historic homes, Georgetown is, quite simply, a walkable, waterfront wonderland. There are so many things to do, see, and explore in Georgetown, it’s sometimes hard to know where to begin. This is the kind of neighborhood that brings out locals and tourists alike, as you’ll often see people out doing some shopping, grabbing a bite to eat, or getting in some exercise along the Potomac River. One of the most popular roads in Georgetown is M Street, which is packed with shops, plus this is also where you’ll find the Old Stone House, which has the honor of being DC’s oldest building that still sits on its original foundation. While you’ll find some popular chain stores in Georgetown to visit, you’ll also find plenty of independent shops selling everything from artwork and antiques to clothing and home goods. If you want to learn more about history, you can take a self-guided walking tour of the area where the Kennedys once lived and worked, including a tavern where it’s said JFK proposed to Jackie. You can also walk to the Francis Scott Key Memorial, embark on a walking food tour of the neighborhood, or simply admire the old cobblestone streets along the way. In addition, the neighborhood is home to a long-standing jazz supper club, which once hosted the likes of jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie. You can also head to the campus of Georgetown University, where live theatrical performances and concerts are sometimes held. With a neighborhood like this, it’s easy to go for a stroll along the waterfront or along the C & O Canal, which is another popular spot for walking and biking.  When you want a bit of a break from walking, you can always head out on the water on a river boat, an electric boat, or a paddle boat. Back on dry ground, you can admire the river while patio dining at one of the nearby restaurants.
