The Baluster on Capitol Hill

For true live-work space on Capitol Hill, it’s time to discover the recently restored townhomes of The Baluster. Zoned for both residential and commercial use, The Baluster consists of just five 19th century rowhouses in the Stanton Park area of Capitol Hill. Originally constructed in the late 1800s, the townhomes are part of a historic district. While the exterior of the townhomes must stay the same, they’ve since been gutted on the inside and remodeled. On the outside, much of the original brick and stone is still there. Crews have also added in new front doors that were designed to look like the original doors of the property. While the units were recently used primarily as office space, they were in need of a number of updates. Essentially, crews restored the townhomes, then reconfigured them from connected office space into separate townhomes. It’s not an unusual concept in Capitol Hill, where rowhouses are commonly used not only just to house executives, but also as office space and even entertaining space for lobbyists. Some interested buyers see the historic rowhouses of The Baluster as an enticing second or third home, with space to entertain. Each of the townhomes come with five-bedrooms. All are relatively identical, although one of the townhomes also comes with a two-level carriage house. The townhomes include a basement with a kitchenette that can be used for workspace or even used as an in-law suite. The main floor of each townhome includes the primary kitchen with Italian cabinetry and a nearby dining room. While it can be used for a traditional family, the kitchen can also be used as a communal space when the property’s being used as executive housing. A roof deck, meanwhile, creates the perfect space to gather outdoors and admire views of the surrounding neighborhood, including nearby Stanton Park. The Baluster Row Houses For Sale
