Featured Employee Of The Month: Kaily Smith

1. What was your very first job?
My first adult, non-nanny job was at Chobani. They have a flagship store in New York City where they make custom yogurt creations and sell products. There was a glass wall separating the front and kitchen where customers could watch their creations being made. I wasn’t allowed to work back there because I “danced too much” and “distracted the customers”

2. What degree(s) do you have and where are they from?
Bachelors of Science in Marketing from Marymount Manhattan College with a minor in economics.

3. What has been the most interesting advancement in your field since coming into the industry?
Data is much more transparent today than before. Access to data as well as the granularity of reporting have significantly increased, allowing for more analysis and insights. Marketers are now having to re-think not only their overarching strategy but also their implementation, optimization, and reporting processes.

4. How did you get into the world of marketing and agency life?
I did 9 internships in college and those experiences lead me through various business departments in various industries and helped me find where I wanted to pursue my career.. My first internship was in entertainment PR, then several in fashion sales/merchandising, until I got into digital media/marketing. My first media internship was at Viacom in International Sales Operations for MTV/Nickelodeon/Comedy Central networks and I’ve stayed in digital marketing operations ever since.

5. What do you do when you are not at work?
Annoy my family, re-watch Parks and Rec, get last place in trivia, drop inspirational one-liners, and/or anything involving Mary J. Blige

6. What are your personality test answers?
Meyers-Briggs: ENFP & Enneagram: 2

7. What three fictional characters represent you best?
Michael Scott from The Office, Sweet Dee from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Tom Haverford from Parks and Rec.

8. If you could invent something to solve one of your biggest problems, what would that invention be?
A bed with an eject button (self-proclaimed “not a morning person”)

9. What’s one thing about yourself that would surprise people?
A lot of people are surprised that I grew up in Bend, Oregon. I also once boarded the wrong plane, but most people that know me don’t find that surprising.

10. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Finish strong.
