Kansas City, Missouri based Vanguard Companies announced that Sammi Econie, the daughter of Ed Econie, Eastern Regional Sales Manager, was awarded one of the two AICC Midwest Region’s $5,000 scholarships for 2023.

The scholarship is open each year to children or grandchildren of full-time employees of companies who are members or associate members in good standing in the AICC Midwest Region. The objective of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to young men and women with their college education and encourage students to strive for higher scholastic ideals.

Sammi was a member of the honors college for four years and completed her undergraduate work at Western Illinois University with a degree in biology and Dietetics where she finished first in her field of studies. While at Western, she worked at Goodwill and managed the food pantry for all four years. She is now moving to Dekalb, Illinois to finish her graduate work in biology and dietetics at Northern Illinois University. After graduate school, Sammi intends to work in a clinical environment and assist infants and the elderly with proper nutrition.

The scholarships were awarded at the AICC Midwest (Region 6) Golf Tournament held on July 24 at the St. Charles County Club in St. Charles, Illinois. Sammi was overwhelmed at the kindness of AICC.

“This takes a lot of pressure off so I can focus on my education,” she said.
