How to Promote Your Acting Blog

Acting is a tough job. The only thing more difficult than Acting is trying to break into the industry.

You have to have acting chops, but you need the right look, the right range, and you need to know how to market yourself.

Most people, especially those who are new, struggle to get the word out about who they are and what they can do. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are trying to find acting gigs while they hold down full-time or part-time jobs. Many of them end up in the freelance writing world, which is why we thought this post might have some value.

Use the lessons you’ve learned to help accelerate your Acting Career by starting a blog and then promoting it. For those of you who feel a bit lost by this idea, keep reading. We’ve got the skinny on how to promote your acting blog.

Get Started Today!

Becoming an Actor is something most of us have thought about over the course of our lives. The phrase “continuing education” works well in this situation.

To break into this field and to excel, you need to learn new things on a regular basis. The reason for this is that acting is super competitive. Everyone has an agent and headshots. What are you going to do to stand out?

Start with a blog. Just like acting, building a successful blog takes time and lots of patience. So consider this good practice for the real deal.

To get started, you want to go slow. Try out different themes and content styles and get your friends and family to tell you what they think. While you can use this blog as a portfolio, you definitely want to consider writing a blog. New actors could find your story valuable and this can help to boost your visibility.

Create a posting schedule. Figure out when you can write. This can be a difficult task for actors, as they’re usually busy with a day job and then taking acting classes or doing something acting related when they aren’t working.

This is ok. If you’re stressed out, then reduce your posting schedule. You can also write several posts at one time and then schedule them to be posted at a later date. WordPress is pretty sweet like that. Many people find blogging to be therapeutic. So if it’s stressing you out, you’re doing it wrong. Relax and write about your experiences.

Don’t try to make money off of this kind of blog, at least not at first. This is about your acting career.

Find Some Traction

Growing as a writer and blogger, once again, takes time and patience. After a few months, you should have found some rhythm as a writer and maintaining your blog, updating plugins and themes, as well as finding a schedule that works for you.

Before you get to this stage, you should be on social media. Once you arrive at this stage, you should be running full-throttle with these efforts.

Instagram is a great place for actors to throw up photos and headshots. Twitter is also pretty sweet. Lots of famous people use Twitter to connect with fans.

Facebook is probably a no-go. People don’t use it like they used to and it’s not the best for getting the word out about your acting career.

At wfh office, we always recommend that people stay away from politics, religion, and other personal opinions that could cause their career to die before it even starts.

Instead, you want to connect with other struggling artists and actors and be supportive. If someone posts a piece of content that you think has a ton of value, make sure to share it with your followers. All parties will appreciate your efforts.

As far as content goes, write what you want to write but keep in mind that baseless content with no value that’s full of filler will cause people to stop reading your blog. If you don’t feel like writing, then don’t. Less is more.

SEO and Organic Traffic

Eventually, it would be great if people find your blog and content through organic methods. By organic methods, we mean Google.

Once your content starts doing well, Google will throw you on the front page for viable keywords.

This is part of a practice known as search engine optimization and if you’re going to take the time to blog, then you should take the time to learn all about SEO and how it can bring high-quality traffic to your website.

So what all should you talk about on your blog? Anything and everything. You don’t want to stuff too many keywords into your content. And you want to keep it at a less than 1% density. Make sure your keyword is in the introduction, a header, and then sprinkle it sparingly throughout your content.

You can write about how hard it is to find work. You can discuss the pros and cons of creating your own demo reel. If you need help constructing a demo reel, check out this site for a great resource.

Wrapping It Up

Acting is a tough gig. Between a day job and a blog, it may feel like you’re working too hard.

However, if your blog can help you land some paid acting gigs and help to expand your professional network, it will be worth it when you’re rich and famous and living that sweet, sweet Hollywood lifestyle.

If you’re an actor who maintains a blog, let us know in the comments below if it helped to push your career forward.
