Are You Running Out of Money

Tags: money

Whether you’re a freelancer or someone who is working a dead-end job, being broke happens.

It could be a huge, unexpected expense, a work famine, or many other possibilities that have left your checking account empty.

What do you do? What are your options? Don’t freak out.

We’ve been there and we’ve gotten past it. Here’s what we’ve got to say on the matter.

Do You File for Bankruptcy?

This is usually the first thing people think about. Am I to the point where I need to talk with a bankruptcy attorney like Rashad Blossom?

After talking with him, he’s probably going to tell you “No”. Bankruptcy is a last resort and often too many people jump into without realizing the long-term consequences.

Before you go down this road, let’s talk about options.

Downgrade

Are you driving expensive cars or living in more house than you can afford? Then it’s time to downgrade.

There is nothing wrong with adopting a minimalist lifestyle, especially when you’re struggling to make ends meet.

And it’s not just cars and homes, either. Get rid of all of the unnecessary luxury items in your life. You honestly don’t need them and if you’re reading this post, you clearly can’t afford them.

Sell It All!

Garage sales, Etsy, eBay, Craigslist, there are a ton of option out there. If you have too much “stuff” or you’re serious about downgrading, then you need a way to get rid of everything and bring in some extra Money.

This is your best option for making money quickly.

Go through your home and pick out everything that you don’t actually need. Create an inventory and a plan that can bring the most money in as fast as you can get it.

Side-Hustle

We all want more money. But when you’ve stretched your resources as far as they can go, it might be in your best interest to pick up a second gig. The is also often called a side-hustle.

Sometimes, you need or want more money on a consistent level. Downgrading and selling off things you don’t need is great, but they’re a one-shot kind of deal. Follow your passion and make money doing something you enjoy. This will keep you busy enough to where you aren’t spending cash on things you don’t need and it will give you the money to pay down debt or afford a large expense that you want.

The Takeaway

There is no worse feeling than not being able to put food on the table.

You look around and see your peers and everything they have and you naturally want them too and you don’t understand why you can’t have it.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from making more money, it’s that money doesn’t matter as much as we used to think.

What matters is living a life we love, doing work that’s fulfilling, and having the freedom to live however we choose. Which is funny, considering most of us got into freelancing simply because we wanted more money.
