A Flight Attendant who holds dual U.S. and Jamaican citizenship is due to appear in court on Wednesday charged with attempting to smuggle 1.5 kg work of Cocaine onto a flight bound for New York City.
Michelle Denise Virgo, 47, was caught by security officers as she went to board a flight at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, on June 6 and was charged with several breaches of Jamaica’s Dangerous Drugs Act on June 10.
Virgo is due to appear at St. James Parish Court on June 14, where prosecutors will allege that she tried to smuggle the cocaine, which was hidden in a secret compartment in her luggage.
Officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force Narcotics Division estimate that the cocaine has a street value of $75,000.
Virgo was attempting to board a flight to New York when she pulled aside by security officers who flagged an issue with her bag, although police have not yet identified which airline the flight attendant worked for.
She has been charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, attempting to Export Cocaine and Conspiracy to Export Cocaine
