Long-distance IT: from Junior Dev to Solution Architect

We continue a series of articles in the special issue “Profession in detail”. Today we will talk about the IT-sphere. There was an opportunity to chat with Zenovia Veres – Solution Architect at Soft Serve, director of the educational direction of the Lviv IT cluster, teacher of NU “LP”. How he became who he is now, what difficulties arose in the professional sphere, what skills are needed – read in our article.

About the industry

About the profession

In order to become a pro, you need to find your place in IT, ie to decide on a technology. You don’t have to be a universal person in every sense of the word. Learn one programming language well to become an expert later. You should not conquer trends and switch from one language to another.

If you dream of becoming Solution Architect, you need to know where to start your career.  At one time Xenovia went to courses C ++ in SoftServe. After graduation, he was hired. As a result, in 8 years he went from Junior Dev to Solution Architect, because “the company allows you to grow your career.”
Solution Architect is an orchestra person who creates solutions to meet customer requirements (how the system will work). This is a position that combines the responsibilities of Team Lead, Project Manager, Bussiness Analyst.
What is included in the requirements:

    • Identification of non-functional requirements for project construction;
    • Building a project architecture;
    • Estimate the duration of the project;
    • Together with the project manager (PM) division of tasks between budgeting teams ;
    • Creating documentation – because it is the main source of information about technical decisions and their reasoning;
    • Work with a team (mentoring, transfer of knowledge on system design).

Learn about management programs for projects like JIRA, Trello. Run your GitHub, attend themed events and become part of those communities. Nevertheless, you need to develop comprehensively.

It’s easy to become a professional if you have a clear goal. Of course, there will be difficulties along the way and without it, there is no way. You need to gain practical experience while studying to achieve your dreams. Try yourself and everything will work out.
