Energy Saving Tips for 2023

Although we are well and truly into the new year now, it’s never too late to create a resolution, especially if it involves Energy saving! With rising energy costs, everyone is now looking at ways they can become more efficient with their energy use and keep bills down.

So we’ve put together a few Energy Saving Tips for 2023 to help you get started-

Bleed your radiators

Bleeding your radiators will help make your radiators more efficient and save you money. When there are air bubbles trapped inside it can stop the warm water from circulating around  and subsequently not making use of all the space in the radiator. This means only the bottom of your radiator will be warm and putting heat into your room. This will lead to your room being colder than it needs to be as the heat is properly distributed.

If you don’t bleed your radiators, you are paying for energy that you aren’t benefiting from.

Smart controls
Smart controls are designed to make your life easier by helping you save energy, and money, overtime. Having a smart thermostat allows you to schedule and program your heating to save energy. This means you can put the heating on in certain rooms of your house so that you are only getting warmth in the places you are actually using. What is the point of spending money heating a room that you aren’t in?

The Nest Learning Thermostat for example even comes with hot water control so you can control your heating and hot water tank all from the same place. With the ability to work with most heating systems, it also has the technology to work with OpenTherm-compatible boilers for advanced modulation.

At Ramki, we will assess your needs, recommend and install smart technologies for your home that will benefit how you live. We can provide you with smart systems that show you your energy usage and give you a range of advice to ensure savings on your energy bills.

Draught proof your home

If you are looking for a relatively cheap way to stop or prevent cold draughts, draught proofing your home is extremely effective. By minimising the draughts in your home, you will be able to use less heat by setting your thermostat at a lower temperature.

Research based on a typical gas-fuelled semi-detached property in England, Scotland or Wales suggest that draft proofing around windows and doors could save you around £60 a year.

Not only will you save energy but you will also help to reduce condensation and dampness as you will be able to control when you let fresh air in.

Only boil the water you need.

If you are a coffee or tea drinker, it is likely you are wasting energy everyday. How many times have you boiled the kettle and only used half of what has heated? Not only is it wasting your time hanging around for the kettle to boil, but it is also costing you extra energy and money. A report from Cambridge Architectural Research found that just boiling the water you require can save up to 83kW of electricity a year.

This is why having a boiling hot water tap is so beneficial. It is a handy permanent addition to your kitchen that allows for no water to be wasted. If you are making cups of coffee, you will be able to use the right amount of hot water you need rather than wasting a significant amount of energy on boiling water you won’t use.

Our team at Ramki install a range of boiling hot water taps. One option is the Quooker tap which has the tap on the work top and tank underneath to instantaneously dispense boiling water. Whether you want a separate boiling water tap with a mixer tap or just one tap for hot, cold and boiling water, we can meet every one of your needs to the highest standard.

Switch off lights

This is a simple tip that doesn’t take much effort. Switch off your lights when you leave a room or when you aren’t home. It is a waste of energy that you are paying for. Getting in the habit of switching off lights will mean you see a big difference in the way you use energy.

Change your light bulbs

LED light bulbs are more energy efficient than standard or incandescent light bulbs. As well as saving energy, they also last longer than other bulbs so you will be spending less money on maintenance.

Other ways Ramki can help you become more energy efficient

At Ramki we can assist you with a range of Energy Saving techniques, from servicing your boiler to make sure that it is in correct working order, to installing heat pumps that will make you live more sustainably.
