We raised £4000 for the Tribe of Lambs on Ramki’s Fun Day

£4000 raised for the Tribe of Lambs on Ramki's Fun Day

On a cloudy September afternoon, which looked disappointingly like it was going to thunder from the heavens, a group of us gathered in Walpole Park, Ealing to unload what felt like 1000’s of chairs, tables, homemade food and drink… and several plastic egg and spoons, an array of coloured sacks, beanbags and flags!

As we battled with expanding the spindly legs of the marques then throwing and quickly tying down their heavy tents on top against gusts of wind and the first splashes of rain, I thought … “Are we crazy!?”

For the past month Ramki Heating had invited friends, family and clients to join us for our first Ramki Family Day in aid of raising money for our charity partner Tribe of Lambs. I had spent weeks reaching out to local businesses to get them involved. I promised my family and friends a great day – an Indian summer day out with the family before the kids went back to school. Was it all going to go wrong?

But as the final touches went on the arts and crafts section, as the games and jewellery stall were set up and ready to go, and as the first coals went on the BBQ, the sun finally came out to play!

People arrived to the smell of homemade marinated Mint Lamb Chops (thanks mum!) sizzling on the BBQ. The Children Headed Straight for the face painting and crafts section, adults enjoyed a glass of wine or craft beer to the backdrop of some fantastic DJ-ing (another shameless shout out toRaj Patel for being our musical maestro all evening), and I knew  then that the day was going to be a success.

From 2pm to 8pm we enjoyed the fantastic food alongside the huge selection of drinks kindly donated by Belgo. The children enjoyed the games, painted miniature wooden objects, painted masks and their faces!  The return of the rain later in the day didn’t spoil our fun (although it did put us off our sports day attempt) instead we announced the winners of the raffle and silent auction, the prizes of which were all kindly donated by our sponsors (need to set-up a dedicated page to list these).

Afterwards we settled into the rest of the evening and enjoyed the rest of the food and drink. It was as hugely successful day. Not only did up on 70 people come together as a community – as a tribe – we raised a staggering £4,000 for another tribe – The Tribe of Lambs.

To put this into context £4,000 will pay to house, clothe and provide books and materials for 57 children to go to school in Indian for a whole year!

So a massive MASSIVE thank-you to all our sponsors who so selflessly offered their products, services and their time to help raise money for TOL. Thank you to our volunteers who gave their time to set-up and help throughout the day, and of course a huge thank-you to all those who came along, got involved and raised money for our cause.

Please do look back at what you’ve done… because we couldn’t have done it without you!
