Record labels/Music Industry

If you are looking for a foot in the Music world door then are worse ways of going about it than finding yourself an internship, or a pert-time stint with a Record Label. Even if they aren't huge any progress is a chance to network and develop.

Record labels require a whole range of different jobs so there is usually something for everyone whether you want to work in the administrative side of things or you want to go to free shows and work the merchandise table.

If there is a specific record label you know of which you would really like to get involved with then your first option is to contact them and inquire as to whether the are taking interns or are hiring work. If they are then they will probably ask you to send a CV to them. Remember to sound as enthusiastic and qualified as possible. Even if they are not hiring theres no harm in sending a CV anyway, they may not realise what they are missing otherwise!

If you don't have any preference as to which label you go for then there are various search engines you can use which give lists of places that are looking for you.

I personally have got myself an internship at a record label in California called Absolutely Kosher, which i heard about through a friend, so keep you ears open!

is pretty good but not exhaustive. Good place to start in your quest.

or
http://uk.music-jobs.com/index.php

allows you to create your own employable profile which music companies can scout through but it seems to be made of quite a few musicians looking for jamming buddies so don't expect immediate results for your ideal job. Really good forums as well which are worth a visit.

is another list of music industry vacancies but from the home page you can search for jobs throughout the entertainment world. Again all US companies and the website takes a bit of time to get the hang of but certainly worth your visit.

So yeah! thats my advice and experience. Let me know how it goes and god luck
